  • COUNCIL TAX addition fees for paying money to bailiff

    Just a quick question.

Is it correct for Rossendales to charge £1.20 per transaction when paying monies into their specified bank i.e. Barclays, via pre-printed Bank Giro slips?
This may be an extra 50p to £5.00 for this service at any other bank. So if you want to pay £100 you have to actually pay £101.20.
I understand they will also charge 80p for Debit Card payments and 2.5% on Credit Card transactions..

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks everyone.:tinysmile_hmm_t2:

Why don't you pay it direct to Council instead via online banking, Council website or automated phone?

      Totally agree with you.

Just wanted to know if these additional fees were the norm and legal.

They can charge card fees, but don't know about the Giro ones sorry.

They think they can but Day v Davies stipulates any fees not on the Schedule cannot be charged.

Payments using Giro slips can, sometimes, attract a fee, which is payable at the counter, if paid at a post office or bank, but this is payable to Post Office Counters Ltd or the bank involved, not the payee. If Rossendales are charging and pocketing such a fee, then I agree with Ploddertom that any fee not permitted by legislation is a no-no.
