  • Excessive Bailiff Charges

Newham Council issued me with a PCN in January of this year, due to being out of work etc I failed to pay the initial fine. The fine ended up at a cost of £221.44

A letter with no date, was put through my door from JBW Bailiffs with costs broken down as £221.44 balance before todays visit, £68.40 attendance levy fee, £210.00 Attendance to remove, totalling £499.84.

I then called Newham Council and paid the bill for £221.44 on 22nd August 2012 at 12noon via debit card.

8 day later on the 30th August at 7.00am, a JBW Bailiff clamped my new car on my private forecourt.

I was not home so they threatened to enter the premises unless £807.00 was paid immediately.

The were shown the Newham receipt number, but continued threatening and intimidating my Mother, who frightened that they might enter our home paid the £807.00.

When asked for a breakdown of the JBW charges the Bailiff refused and said contact the office, they then to me to write in.

What can I do to recover these excessive costs? Can I challenge them or is this money gone?

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED

    Re: Excessive Bailiff Charges

Hello Jonzeeboy and welcome to Legal Beagles.

The fees bailiffs are legitimately permitted to charge on unpaid PCNs are regulated by the Enforcement of Road Traffic Debts (Certificated Bailiffs) Regulations 1993-2003.
Before I can advise you, could you please advise if the letter you received from JBW was delivered by Royal Mail or hand-delivered.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.
