  • bailiff collecting with regard to Mj fine... letter not recieved.

was fined by the majistrates court to the sum of £220. ended up paying £530 to the bailiff when he came a-knocking.

ive been looking around and it seems that they are able to do this disproportionate charging but my issue is that i never recieved notification from marstons that the debt had been transferred to them, thereby making it impossible for me to avoid the £215 visit fee. i have no doubt that this is their business strategy but what can i do about it? the letter would have arrived if it was sent, but they never sent one.

could anyone give me a little advice please... im doing a subject data request but i imagine that would have been doctored anyway.

Have a read of this. There are a couple of things you can do as you will see. The first is to check the bailiff who attended was certificated. The second, and this step is often missed, is the Further Steps Notice.

You would have been notified of the original fine. If you did not pay, I'm not aware of any need for them to notify you about initial enforcement. The procedure is quite clear for a Magistrates' Court fine, and is set out in the link at the top.
