  • Re: Equita Bailiffs

    Hello,

I'm hoping you can help. I failed to pay my council tax and they passed it onto Equita. For the past year I have been making payments of £150 each month on time. I n Jamuary '12 I moved into my boyfriends property and informed my local council of this. In response they altered the amount due on my account.

I phoned Equita at the beginning of March to make my usual payment. I was told in order to completely clear my previous address I needed to make a payment of £108.17, which I did. I didn't hear anything from the company until the 29 March 2012 when I received a hand delivered later stating that the bailiffs had been around and thst they had the powers to seize my goods. I immediately phoned the bailiff given on the bottom on the letter, there was no response. I continued to phone him on Friday and Saturday to no avail, his phone constantly went to voice mail. On the 30 March I contacted Equita and asked why the bailiff had been sent to my property, they refused to discuss my account. I phoned back and explained that I was unable to contact the bailiff in question to rectify the situation, they suggested I sent an email to them explaining the situation, which I did today.

I might be sounding impatient but I would like for this matter to be dealt with promptly, as I have moved in with my boyfriend and he is worried. Also we both have cars and I would be upset if they got taken away. What should I do next? How long should I wait and who should I contact to resolve this?

    Please advise.

Contact the council and ask how much is still owing. You can pay them directly then either online or via their automated phone system. They will tell you you have to pay Equita directly, but you don't. Then get a receipt at the council offices showing the zero balance. The bailiffs can't collect when there's no debt to collect.

Move to a town where Council Tax administration has not been 'outsourced' to the idiots at Crapita. :tinysmile_aha_t:
