  • ADVICE NEEDED - re philps bailiffs

Hi I had an unpaid tv license (not quite sure from when), well it got passed on to philips bailiffs back in July I got straight in touch with them and arranged a payment plan of £15 a week. I went online and set up a standing order for this each week. Unfortunatley the first payment went wrong, and did not come out. the first I heard of this was when I recieved a letter from philips saying so. I got straight back in touch to try and sort it out I even offered to pay the "outstanding arreas" but I was told it was too late action will be taken which will result in a bailiff removing stuff from my house. I vistied my local CAB and they contacted them to try and get the weekly arrangment back in place but was again told it was too late. Basicly all I could do was keep paying the voluntary payments I was making (I had carried on paying my £15 a week) and wait for the bailiff to arrive to empty my house. I went home and removed all the stuff from my house that I did not want them to take, and sat and waited. eventualy a bailif arrived and i let him in and told him to get on with what he had to do, he looked at me in surprise and asked me what was wrong and if I was ok (as if he had to ask). I explained to him what had been going on and he told me dont worry nobody will remove stuff from your house as I am still paying and I should phone this number they are only trying to scare me. So again I phone the number to be told the same thing I have been told on previous phone calls to them. So now I dont phone them or answer the door to them I am just ignoring them but still paying letters keep coming the last letter stated that "despite letters I have not been in contact" why waste what its going to cost me to phone them to be told the same thing. As its getting nearer to christmas I am getting a little worried that they will step up their game a bit and am wondering should i just use the money that I would spend on christmas to pay them off or should I just keep paying my weekly payments? The original fine was for £330, which went up to £530 after missing the first payment I now owe £230. I know that because it is a court fine the bailifs have the power to break into my home to remove stuff, but this is rare and in extreme circumstances, so I am told. Would they do the extreme for £230?

If they intended to break in, they would have to gain another warrant from the court giving them permission. Since you have been and are, paying them, I would think this highly unlikely.

Despite what the bailiff company might claim, they are not allowed to remove one of your kidneys to settle this debt. :tinysmile_aha_t:
