  • Advice Please: Rossendales / Council Tax

    Hello All,
I returned home from work last night to find a piece of A4 paper in my letterbox, It is addressed to myself (and unusually my ex who i split with several years ago). From browsing this forum it appears to be the standard Rossendales Bailiff Removal - Magistrates Liability order/distress warrant paper work that they use on there visits.
It says I owe £514.45 including enforcement costs and must pay witihin 24 Hours in full and no arrangements will be acceptable, if i dont pay the bailiff will re-attened at his convinience and remove any goods to cover the cost even in my absence. At this point the bailiff has marked in pen that he will take my car.

Ok this is worrying me now, I dont mind paying as i do owe the money afterall, however there is no way that i can pay it in one go or within 24 hours, secondly i work long hours can he really just enter my home like that? this is the only time they have contacted or visited me that im aware of. And thirdly the threat to remove my car from outside my property... well this would be interesting in the extreme as i dont have a vehicle hell i dont even have a licence but i do live in a city center terrace so would they really just swipe a car from outside?

Any and all advice on how exactly to deal with this will be greatfully received, I have already checked his name against the court pages and he does appear to be properly regisitered assuming ofcourse that this is actually his name :-)

    Thanks

    J

You've read the bailiff guide, you should know that he cannot "just enter your home like that" unless he has ever been granted peaceful entry previously. Has he?

You need to contact your council and find out from them how much you owe in council tax rather than take the word of a lying bailiff. There will be a huge amount added to this for their "fees."

Well ive never even met the guy so he has deffinatley not been in my house, So I guess ill wait untill tuesday and call the council to find out how much I actually owe.

Thanks for responding, those notices can be somewhat un-nerving despite what it says in the guide :-)
