Dear All, some advice regarding Newlyn's.
I had a an outstanding PCN which I had challenged twice but could not get overturned, so the fine transferred from Lambeth Council to Newlyn's for £198.16.
To be honest I forgot about, but found it today and called them with the intent of paying in full only to be told the bill had risen to £435.52.
The breakdown was explained as follows:
PCN Fine £198.16, Letter £11.20 (Not recieved), £20.00 Car Search, 182.00 Vist Fee plus £37.32 VAT. Now this totals £448.68 a descrepancy of £13.16 which the young lady could not explain. I then asked when the visit had taken place, I was told they called at the house and left a letter on Saturday 23rd October 2010 at 18.57 with a van. I was at home watching West Ham vs Newcastle on SKY.
No letter was left at our house even though they say it was. What defence do I have. It's basically my word against theirs. The girl on the phone said that the Bailiff did not need to knock at the door on his visit, he could levy my car from outside, even though the PCN was for my scooter that was locked away in the garage.
The only way she would accept payment was over the next four weeks at £108.88 per week. I explained that there was no way I could afford that, as I am on long term sick and my wife works part time and I have three kids.
Sorry for the long post, don't know where to go with this. Newlyn's won't listen, nor will Lambeth Council.
