On the 24th a man rang my buzzer , whilst I was out and spoke to my daughter. She told him she was not allowed to let anyone that she doesn't know into the apartment if i am not in. The man told her she had to come down and see gim and said that he was from the council. she didn't go down, even through he then rang the buzzer repeatedly, because she was afraid and she thought he sounded scary.
Later, when I entered the apartment block after work I found an envelope on the step of the main shared entrance hall. Ie not through my door & in a public place. Inside were two letters from a company called rundle and co referring to a council tax debt.
There are a few things which worry me and seem unorthadox about this( apart from him harrassing a child??? Which is surely illiegal?) please advise me on them.
1. I have not had a letter or bill from my local authority informing me of any arrears with my council tax ? I pay direct debit and have not missed a payment . I have checked on my recent bank statements.
2. The letter says 'attenance notice. the clearance of goods'
And opens by saying ' your debt remains outstanding' , as if to imply this situation is ongoing- when in fact it is the first I have heard of any arrears, court orders, or the like. I have not had anything like a summons or court order? Neither have I had a
letter from rundle before this visit?
3. He has put two letters in the envelope with two amounts, one is for £302.88 and
the other for £375.64, with no explanation as to the differing amounts ( they both
have the same date on them) Im guessing that one amount is larger because he has added a charge of some kind. But it's a large charge , over £70. If this is a charge, should he not state as much? And say what exactly it is for.
4. Also what is the situation with him misleading children and trying to get them to give him access to my home & in leaving a letter he is charging to deliver supposedly to me. In a public place. Rather than through my actual letter box? Can you charge me for such a thing?
He says he will return with the police if I do not contact him straight away. However I am reluctant to do so until I hear from my local authority what this debt us? What period it relates to and why j have received no notification from them. But whilst I await this info from them , how do I fend off this baliff until such time as I can resolve what the supposed debt is ? Is there a specifically worded letter I can send to do this. Otherwise he will surely attend my house again and pester my child I'd j am not back yet, or try to remove my property?
Please advise.
