Hi,
I have today just had a letter from the bailiffs for outstanding council tax from an old property (I moved out of the county). The balance is £1,191.14 and they say they will only accept £100 per month, which we cannot afford as my partner has been out of work for 3 and a half years and has only just got a part time job. We offered £40 per month and also to meet them half way. They refused to budge.
We then went to the council direct, but they said they cannot take payments themselves now it has gone to bailiffs. We are worried now, as we want to pay this off, but fear that because we cannot meet such high payments then we are pretty much screwed.
What can we do to resolve this?
