  • Philips - never had any notice of fine!

    Hello,

Please bear with me - first time poster. Over a week ago I started to receive text messages from Philips asking my husband to call them about an outstanding fine. Finally got through to them and were told that it was for not having a valid car tax disc on November 5th 2009 - but we did (we had one issed from end of May to end of November).

Having never heard about this before - we now get 2 text messages every evening from them threatening us with fines and that a bailiff will be coming to our property. They told my husband to send them a copy of the tax disc in question which he has and that would put a stop to all of this. However, tonight we got an email from them saying that they can only stop action if authorised by HMCS South West.

I am at home with 2 young children and keep thinking someone is going to come and knock on the door about this. What do we do? Who do we contact to put a stop to this?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

There is nothing they can do, so try not to worry - although I appreciate it is difficult when they threaten awful things.

I would write to them, not telephone or email them and tell them you are not prepared to discuss this any further as you have provided the tax disc they requested.

Thank you for the quick response - I will send them a copy again of the tax disc by recorded delivery. Should we just assume that they will eventually get fed up with harassing us? Would this matter have been passed to them by the magistrates court? As we have never received any correspondence on this matter before can we go back to the courts to 'close' it down?

Sorry for all of the questions!

Most of these incidents are as a result of the many cameras you see at the side of roads, which are fallible. Letters get sent out to the wrong people all the time.

So, in your case, I would imagine that there is a digit in the wrong place. In any case, you have absolutely nothing to worry about as you had a valid tax disc at the time, but you could always ask for the proof that they have it was you.
