  • Can bailiffs chase me for there fees if i paid the creditor?

    Hi just a quick question.

I run my own business and i never paid the cororation tax on time they went to court and obtained a warrant. The debt was passed onto a bailiffs company who stuck £250 ontop for there fees.

I have since paid the inland revenue so they are paid but i have received a call from the bailiffs today saying that i need to pay there fee of £250 as they were passed the warrent they can still enforce it???

Does anyone know if this is correct or are they trying it on?

Also does anyone have a number i could call for clairification on this before i tell the bailiffs your not getting anything!

    Thanks

Bailiffs' fees are set by statute and may be subject to detailed assessment if you believe them to be excessive. Frequently Bailiffs charge fees that are not permitted, such as spurious ‘administration’ fees, or which have not been “actually and necessarily” incurred or are unreasonable and disproportionate to the amount of the debt being collected.

Under the National Standards for Enforcement Agents bailiffs must provide a breakdown of the fees charged if this has been requested. You may then use this breakdown to challenge any unlawful fees.
