  • CDER ballif at my door demanding £450

    Hi
I'm new to this site I was told to come here to get advice. Basically, I got a letter from CDER group(speeding fine from last year, the letter was sent earlier this month, but i only saw it this week, long story dad has dementia and took some of my letters), it was for a sum of £244, because I didn't have much money I made a payment of £30 online. this was on the 20th. So this morning a bailiff turned up at my parents, he was demanding 450. I'm away at my partners in another city, so I called the bailiff explaining I paid some and asked if i could set up a payment plan, the bailiff has given me 4 hours to pay in full.

I haven't received a letter warning me a bailiff is coming in 7 days. Because i don't have the money I'm going to have to use my credit card, if I don't he said a warrant for my arrest will be issued. Is there anything i need to be aware of paying with a credit card?

It does not look as if the Bailiff has done much wrong. It appears they did send a letter to which they received no response and I assume the payment you made was just a contribution and not agreed. I doubt very much you would have been arrested - more like a non-bail warrant to appear at a certain time to explain why payment was not made. Have you asked for a breakdown of the fees charged to ensure you have not overpaid. Contrary to popular belief you may read elsewhere do not be tempted to try doing a chargeback on your card.
