  • Confused By Response to Settlement Offer

    Hi everyone,

I sent legal firm a settlement offer without prejudice. They have responded:

As previously advised, the lowest settlement offer we could accept is for £[...]. We confirm that we act under our Clients instructions and have therefore returned the account to them, and that we are no longer instructed in connection to this matter. Please contact our client directly to resolve this matter using the contact details below and quoting their reference [....].

Is this a typical response to a settlement offer, and what should I do next?

It seems odd that they're wiping their hands of this, which I was not expecting.

    Thanks for any help

It's not typical, but your other thread suggests that these (lawyers? debt collectors?) were engaged to see what they could get you to cough up without further action. In other words, they have gone as far as they were given authority by the creditor.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

You could make the same offer to the Creditor. Write 'Without Prejudice' on the letter.
They'll be in a better position to accept it. See what they say.
