  • Buying legal acts of parleament

Hi. I have been looking at the TSO book shop. I have bought 2 books 8 years ago and am looking at the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The problem there are so many versions. Which one is right.

    What is (Commencement)

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement) (England) Order 2015
    Statutory instruments 965 (C. 62) 2015

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2015
    Statutory instruments 1333 (C. 76) 2015

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement No. 2 and Transitional Provision) (England) Order 2015
    Statutory instruments 1575 (C. 89) 2015

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2015
    Statutory instruments 1584 2015

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement No. 3, Transitional Provisions, Savings and Consequential Amendments) Order 2015
    Statutory instruments 1630 (C. 94) 2015

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement No. 3, Transitional Provisions, Savings and Consequential Amendments) (Amendment) Order 2016
    Statutory instruments 484 (C.29) 2016

    TIA.

have you thought about downloading the legislation from the internet

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/...ntents/enacted

All the above are Statutory Instruments so will be modifications to the act and may be relatively short e.g https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/.../contents/made

In any event they can be downloaded from the internet

      Thanks for this.

I was going to buy from TSO but wanted to know the latest version. I asumed that.
(Commencement No. 1) Order 2015 would be older than
      (Commencement No. 3) Order 2015

It is sometimes nicer to have in the book form. One odd thing is

Consumer Rights Act 2015: Chapter 15
Author: Great Britain Publisher: TSO (The Stationery Office) £23.75

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Commencement) (England) Order 2015 £4.25
      Statutory instruments 965 (C. 62) 2015

One section of this (Chapter 15) is more expensive than the whole act. STRANGE!

        https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/.../contents/made
is only a commencement order for part of the Act.

        http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/...ntents/enacted
        is the whole shebang.

        http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/...ion/15/enacted
        is section 15 only.

If you look at all legislation, even great long pieces they have chapter numbers. For example the consumer credit act 1974 is chapter 39.

The poor law of 1601 is also called 43rd of Elizabeth. An oddity of our system I guess
