  • Moriarty Law.

I received a letter today from Moriarty Law about a debt that belonged to my ex partner. He got into trouble about 5 years ago and ran up debts. I kicked him out of the house shortly after and have not seen him since. I used to get hundreds of phone calls but I have told them he does not live here. The phone calls stopped until today. A letter arrived addressed to my ex partner but no address on the back so I opened it. It was from Moriarty Law acting on behalf of motormile finance. The alleged debt was £425. I sent the letter back to Moriarty Law stating "not known at this address" I am just wondering if they can somehow come after me.

If the debt was in your ex's name alone the answer is no they can not chase you for it

It is likely they will want some 'proof' your ex is no longer there.

If you are still single and get the single persons discount on Council Tax that may be enough to show no one is there.

I also assume there is no mention now on the electoral register of your ex
