    Hi everyone,

you guys have been great in the last so I'm hoping for some help again today.

Long story short, got divorced in 2011, kept the house and the kids and the debts. After working hard I've finally cleared my two defaults and am just waiting for them to fall off my credit report.

last week I had a text from OPUS with my name and a reference number asking me to call them. Naturally I didn't. Today they rang my home phone and asked me to confirm personal details. I refused to do so and hung up.

Ive done a little research and it appears that some debt may not show on credit files. I have no clue what this is and really don't think it's mine. Should I worry about this? I've had no letters chasing me for money from anyone let alone OPUS.

    any advice out there.

    thank you in advance.

    Re: Opus

    Hi
Do you mean Opus or OPOS

OPOS are a dca who are collecting old PDL's from minicredit which was sold to kapama when Minicredit left the market

So I have no clue on minicredit. What's a PDL??

      thank you so much.

        Re: Opus

A PDL is a payday loan
Minicredit were a rogue company that stopped trading before they were closed down, they then passed some of the debts to Kapama who use OPOS to collect them. If you ask me its all wheels within wheels.

Not sure what to recommend apart from keep an eye on your credit report and if they phone again tell them to put it in writing

I get the odd call from them although less since I took the answerphone off and even though I did write to them and tell them to put it all in writing they haven't bothered.

Just to be sure, did you ever take out a payday loan, minicredit were also called micro credit - or is it possible your ex took one out in your name.

It might be that OPOS have bought some other debts

          Re: Opus

I subscribe to credit expert and equifax and check my credit file daily. I can absolutely guarantee that I don't have any pay day loan. The ex thing is a possibility however, we split 6 years last April and I've had nothing in the post or on any credit file.

i don't want to ring them because I've heard they're a nightmare. I can say without doubt that this isn't mine.

            Re: Opus

It is one of those things that it is difficult to make a judgement call on

Sadly i do not subscribe to the 'if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear' brigade but at the same time ( and I haven't heard of kapama actually bring court claims) you do not want the hassel of a claim maybe going to an old address. Good news from what you said is that you are still in the same house

If they phone you again I would just ask them to put it in writing to the address they have on file - they won't like you refusing security but stick to your guns

I am not sure when minicredit started trading but they were active mid 2012 and wound up Dec 2014 when everyone who had their debts sold should have received a notice of assignment .

              Re: Opus

I've been at this address for 11 years so have no fear of any letters not being received.

Am I right to assume this may NOT show on my credit file?

                Re: Opus

It may well not show on your credit file

When minicredit were trading it did show on mine but afterwards it vanished - by rights it would still be eligible to show if they were reporting it.

                    Re: Opus

Sorry, if it helps, Kapama show up in my closed accounts of clearscore but without a default date ( something clearscore don't seem to offer)

I should challenge it but I will just wait a year for it to fall off

                      Re: Opus

Nothing shows up on noodle, clear score, equifax or Experian. In your opinion do you think this is something that could be enforced? I'm not avoiding anything because I know this isn't my debt. If it is a debt.

                        Hi
i am really not in an position to give an opinion because I can not know all the facts. It seems to happen quite often that people make assertions then these are later shown to be not quite what happened. It is understandable when some of these things were 5/10/15 years ago+ . I am not saying this applies to you but I hope you understand where I am coming from.

Another reason is that i am only giving you opinions based on my experience

Sadly there also seems to be some sharp practice amongst debt purchasers , for example on served a claim and got a default judgement at an address which hadn't existed for some time, another seems they may have been 'over zealous' in reconstituting documents.

It is easier to head these things off and keep them out of court and as you have been at the same address for 11 years I would think about sending a prove it letter to OPOS.
As payday loans were I think always taken out online I would be inclined to ask for the IP, and MAC address used when the loan was signed as well as the ISP.
From the IP and ISP you will be able to establish at least if it was taken out from your service provider and by doing a MAC address search you will be able to find out the equipment manufacturer https://macvendors.com/

Different routers give different details but I am sure with a tech savvy teenager this could easily be done

Is there a prove it letter

BTW my Mac lookup came up with an HP which is indeed the make of this laptop - prior to that I had a Samsung and also a MAC so I know what equipement i have had for the last 10 years

Oh and quite simple ask them for the name account number and sort code where the money was deposited

I f you know this isn't your debt, send them a Prove It letter. https://debtcamel.co.uk/prove-it/

Opos /Kapama are best known at the moment for their minicredit payday loan debts - but I am sure they have others as well, so don't get too hung up on those. Until you know what debt it is, you can't really say anything sensible.
