  • Repayment of Training Costs - Ive not seen or signed an agreement

    Hi

I am looking for a bit of guidance, advice and in general for someone to put me at ease. I started a role in 2016 and part of the offer was that my new employer would pay for my 2nd year studies and allow me time to attend classes so it was my understanding that i would not be tied to any repayments if i was to leave. Since my line manager mentioned about having a document written so i knew what i was entitled to in terms of study leave and financial support (books ect) but this never happened.

I have this week handed in my notice and was sent an email by my manager which reads along the lines of - Ive details of the monies paid to support your course which as per the agreement (I know I shared with you a second copy when you started your second year in September) will need to be repaid accordingly. I have not seen or signed this agreement.

My employment contract says that any outstanding monies will be deducted from my final salary I am not due to leave until the second week in August so will be due a final wage at the end of that month.

    My questions are -

1, Even though i have not signed any agreement can they deduct this from my salary?
2, If they did decide to do the above and because my final salary would not cover the cost can they stop/deduct from this months without prior agreement/discussion with myself?
