    A former colleague had been after me to join her at her new job for 18 months. In the end, I was given some promises and accepted. Within the first two days it became clear it wasn't going to be anything like she'd suggested, with issues including bullying going unchallenged. I have completed my second week, no contract signed and an 'informal' period of probation of three months. There is nothing in the employee handbook regarding giving notice/periods of notice. Am I obliged to give them any notice at all, bearing in mind i only work three days a week?

    As you're under One months employment you aren't obliged to give any notice, however after a month you should give them a week's notice. If you think an issue may arise with your pay - it may be better for you to give a weeks notice now so you serve a full month and get paid for the full month, hopefully without any kerfuffle with the employer.

      Thanks for getting back. In fact that is exactly what has happened. I gave my notice verbally and then in writing, however I didn't specify a length of time, basically as I had already been offered a new job with an immediate start. Today, the seven days wages they owe me were supposed to be paid, and they haven't been. They also are refusing to acknowledge receipt of any of my emails, choosing instead to ignore me. I wonder where that leaves me, from a legal standpoint with regards to getting what is rightfully owed.

      Any clues/advice?
