  • My 16 year old niece has been told she faces diciplinery

Hi, many thanks in advance for any advice I receive.
My Niece started working as a Barista at a popular coffee shop. She has been told that she has to 'sell' 20 'new blends' by next Friday or she faces disciplinary. She is expected to ask each customer if they would like to choose the new blend at an additional cost of 20p.
I used the chain often and I don't think I've ever wanted the more expensive blend and find the coffee just fine as it is. I don't see how this can possibly be fair and is out of her control to hit the requested target. Any advice on whether this is legal or fair is much appreciated.

    Kind regards

It's a sales target so I assume that she has been struggling to hit targets. I think she just needs to keep asking customers and perhaps see how others are doing the same. If it doesn't work then she can look at the training that she has been provided and whether it was adequate enough.

OK, the basic questions: how long has she worked there?
Has she been given any training?

I'd suggest she looks for another job, personally, cos that does sound a bit extreme unless she has been struggling with sales since she started there.
