  • Defaults registered by British Gas

Looking for a little advice on how to go about challenging 2 defaults on my credit file logged by British Gas. One is for gas the other for electricity at a previous property. FYI i am currently with a different supplier at my new address so BG have no way of perusing this at the moment.

At present the amounts outstanding remain unpaid. The reason for this is paid or not they still have the same negative effect on my credit file so my reasoning is why bother paying approx £1,800.00 to be no better off in the eyes of potential lenders.

The matter has gone through numerous DCA's with no success so has been passed back to BG. As the account is still registered with them, I am considering making an offer to pay in full immediately on the provision that they agree to remove the defaults. (I know this is a long shot but its either get the money in full and remove or don't get a penny)

I have read on this forum that an SAR should be made and all info with regards to the processing of data should be checked over to ensure they have acted as they should. Should this be my first approach or do i go with sending a "Without prejudice" letter proposing the full payment option above?

Alternatively if anyone has any other ideas on how to approach this it would be a big help.
