Hi,
I have recently purchased a new car in Scotland and was guaranteed by the sales adviser that the car would be delivered mid March. We specifically discussed the importance of this due to the changes to road tax that come into effect on the 1st April. The contractual date of delivery is 30th March and the adviser said this was as an absolute fail safe and I could definitely expect the car mid March. I have now been advised the car will be delivered end of April.
I have arranged to hand back my current car and this will happen shortly.
The late delivery of the car will result in increased road tax payments and also will mean that I am without the use of any car for a period of weeks which is a serious inconvenience.
Do the garage have any obligation to make good the difference in road tax payments caused by the car being late? Also, do the garage have any obligation to provide me with a vehicle during the interim period?
Many thanks
JF
