need help to get my usa passport,usa donot regconise my double barrelled surname

Hi, ,when my father passed away in USA, i was told that because my dads name was not on my birth certificate, as my parents split up before i was born,( i was born in the UK and took my mothers maiden name) i could not claim that I am half American ,however It did state in his last will that i was his first born daughter, and i have written proof from his lawyer in USA and close relatives i am. So when he passed, i changed my surname name to double barrelled by deed poll,however USA embassy said the USA government do not see this as legal and stated i needed to find a UK lawyer who especially knows/understands USA Law.
Any tips or information would be gladly appreciated.

This type situation has been going on for years even in the Philippines after the last war, up to and including the late 1980s and beyond with local male/females.
