  • Filming at work for training purposes

Hi, my first post ! My work have introduced a very high tech training programme which involves half the group doing ‘role play’ of scenarios and being filmed while the rest of the group watch, it is then played back and critiqued. There is a form they ask you to sign to give them permission and they are told the data will be delated after 30days. The issue is that not everyone is happy to be filmed but they were told if they did not sign then they could not complete the training therefore they would not be compliant in their role as the training is mandatory. What are our rights ?

I am sure one of the clever chaps will be able to tell you your legal standing on this but in the meantime…..
Is there a particular reason why you do not want to be filmed? I know many companies use this very effective technique for training purposes. Actually, I have had it done and except for appearing even fatter and my accent coming across as something from a bog hole I ‘survived’! It is a very effective training tool and unless specifically stated only used in the particular training exercise i.e. it is not going to be bandied around the company or ‘put on general release’. Usually the recording is given to the individual at the end of the training session.
