Hi to everyone who contributes to this forum. To all the people who help - I sincerely thank you.
Many years ago , I got into quite a bit of a financial mess. However; I sorted things out and paid off everything that I could honestly remember. I have been getting lots of text messages and letters from Capquest over the last year and they are asking me for over £900, for an old bank account. They don't even get the right surname on the letter, but I know it must be me as I can see the same details on my noddle credit report.
I hadn't used this account since 2001 and had forgotten all about it. On my credit report though - it shows as remaining active until Dec 2016! It shows as 'Settled' on my report. I believe that this must be when Capquest bought the debt. They are now threatening to hand over to their collection dept unless I contact them. I cannot see how I can owe so much!
I have heard about debts becoming Statute Barred, but I'm concerned that if the account was active until last year, then this may not apply.
Any help would be massively appreciated as this is causing some considerable stress at home.
