• days at work changing

Hi

Wondered if anyone can help -

I have been working part time with the same company for 5 years. To start with i was working any 3 days but found this difficult to organise childcare - i asked for my days to be set and they gave me Tues, Wednesday and Thursdays. Since then i have been working these same days. I had an email from my manager advising from this year it will no longer be the same - on the rota I'm sometimes mondays / tuesday / wednesday. others tues / weds / thurs and other weds/ thurs friday. The other part time staff's days have been kept the same only me that has changed? I will struggle badly with childcare especially on a monday - thats why i had asked not to work this day?
does anyone know where i stand legally>

Thanks

I am sure someone will have some sound advice re your legal position but before that is it not possible to talk to your manager or other colleagues to see if they would prefer to work the days you would find difficult? Remember you have been there for a few years and good long term staff are not as easy to come by as you think and you need to realise that employers will often try their best to accommodate employee’s personal needs.
I would definitely try explaining why this change would cause you problems and see if they stonewall you.

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

I think that due to your longterm standing your current working hours are incorporated into your contract, and the employer cannot change them without your agreement.
You should probably register (in writing) with your employer your disagreement with the new hours, and make plain you are working them under protest. Not to do so could be seen as acceptance.

I'm tagging one of our employment knowledgeable posters for you Sangie595 but in meantime this link might help https://www.workingfamilies.org.uk/a...ge-your-hours/
