Hello everybody,
My husband received a letter yesterday from a debt collection company called Vilcol stating he owed £75 to the Post Office.
We used to have broadband with them 5 years ago, we've heard nothing from them until yesterday. It is also worth saying that there was no sign of this debt on his credit file.
We have called the Post Office today who have told us that the debt has been written off with them but might have been sold on before that.
This is where my issue is: the agent on the phone advised that officially we need to arrange to pay the debt. He also said that if we don't acknowledge the letter they won't know we live at our address, the debt will eventually clear and that they have no right to enter our house and it's extremely unlikely that this would happen.
For having dealt with debt collection agencies before I don't think ignoring is a good idea as they might take legal actions.
I was thinking of writing to Vilcol saying we had done our investigation and the debt had been written off.
Could anyone advise if this seems a good solution?
Thank you in advance!
