    HI

    Quick Question

when my daughter's husband left her he refused to make any contribution to the mortgage payments., She made payments of 50% of the monthly premium until the house was sold. Her ex never contributed for the 12 months prior to the sale. The mortgage is paid of but my daughter is now unable too get credit because of the default on the mortgage.

Is there any thing she can do to get the default removed from her file or will it be there for 6 years?

    Hi,

If the default was placed correctly, I'd very much doubt she would have any chance of getting it removed.

You haven't given any reason why the default might be incorrect. She was liable to make the whole payment. A default should have been added between 6 and 12 months after she started making 50% payments. But if a default has been added too early it may be best not to challenge this as bringing it forward would delay the date it will disappear.

She may be able to get a mortgage when the default is over three years old. Tell her to go through a broker , not direct to a high street bank.

If she has a very large deposit it may be worth looking at sooner given cause of the default.
