Gargage charging again for warranty work

Hi, can someone give some advice on my sons car repair, he contacted a garage i know and had a engine fitted by them. Engine was sourced by them and paid for by my son including fitting by the garage. The engine developed an oil leak which we were informed by a separate garage was due to bad gasket seal or not enough being used on the timing chain cover which would have been done when the car engine was being reconditioned, the garage has refused to remove the engine and send back to the supplier of the engine company without my son paying for the removal and refitting of the engine. they have said there is only a warranty on the engine rebuild not on the labour involved, am i right in thinking the contract is with the Garage which sourced and fitted the engine, and is up to them to go back to the supplier of the engine to recover any costs??

Did your son pay the engine supplier directly, or via the garage who inserted it in the vehicle?
Who issued the receipt?
