Hello, everybody.
I need help for a legal issue. I went to speak to citizen advisor service but they couldn' help me out.
I actually work as radiographer for a private company since March 2014 (in UK). In this company, I have different roles. I work in CT and MRI departments. After 3 months that I was employed I wanted to do a master degree course related to my job in order to improve my skills. This course is a distance learning course. One of the requirements for the acceptance to the course was to provide a document where a manager of my company attested that they would have given me to work at least 18 hours per week in MRI as requirement.
The CEO agreed to sign this document but, for this, in exchange I had to sign a contract that I had to work for the company for at least 3 years and at least one year from when I will finish the course. If I wanted to leave before these three years, I would have to give them £7000. If I hadn't accepted this (signed a written contract), they wouldn't have signed the document and I wouldn't have been able to do the course. (Basically, they sold that signature for £7000 or three working years)
Now, after just 2 years, one year before the contract ends, I would like to change job as the salary decided on the contract is much lower that what I would earn in any other circumstance (for example working for NHS).
In this time I have worked full time and as any other radiographer.
So my questions are:
Considering that they didn't pay the master course, I paid it for myself, is it possible for me to avoid paying the £7000 fee?
Is it even legal a contract like that?
Could anybody help me with this, please?
