    Good morning

I have received a letter from Mortimer Clarke Solicitors which says as you are aware a county court judgement has been entered against you, which is a bit of a shock, It gives a claim Number (but no court details) and an amount from a company I have never heard of I have just checked with Trust online and also my credit files and there is nothing registered nor have I ever had a County Court claim form or anything from any Court please can you advise how to respond to the letter

    Many thanks

It might be worth giving Mortimer Clarke a call and asking them about the letter and the alleged court claim, informing them you are not aware of any judgment against you and could they send you a copy so you can assess your position. Alternatively, if you'd rather not speak with them, you can give the court a call ( Northampton CCBC is most likely to be the right place - 0300 123 1056 or 01604 619 400) and give them the claim number and they will be able to tell you if there is a CCJ registered.

It may well be it is a CCJ from over 6 years ago, in which case they would need to apply to the court if they wanted to move to enforcement action, and have a good reason as to why they haven't bothered before now.

First step is to find out what it is then we can give you a hand looking whether you want to set it aside / defend it or just tell them to go away.

          :duh:

Idiots. But good news for you

Did they mention any other debts ? or say what this was at all ?

If not, then I might be inclined to write to them and complain, and ask them to reimburse the £3 (or whatever Registry Trust searching costs).

hmmmm. Might be worth giving the court a call on Monday, just to treble check, with that reference number.
