The charity I run owns a 5 year VW Crafter minibus bought from new. We had gearbox problems at 14,848, miles (2 years old), again at 14,947 miles, again at 15053 miles. It was looked at each time by a VW Van Centre.
At 33,000 (5 years old) the gearbox seized and had to be replaced which we have had to pay for.
To me 33,000 miles is not a lot of mileage for a gearbox on a modern vehicle. It is obvious that this gearbox had an inherent fault or was not fit for the purpose for which it was designed.
Is it right that we should have to pay (Over £4000) for a new gearbox?
