  • Dodgy Dry Cleaner

    A dry cleaning company come to my friend's workplace to trade. They pick items up and then return cleaned items to work..
    My friend gave them a dress from Hobbs priced at £100, it had a pen mark on and she pointedly asked them if they could remove it before handing it over, they scoffed and said no problem.
    A few days later they came back with it to show her, and had ruined it as the colour had run due to their attempts at removing it. They said they would keep at it and took it away again.
    It has now been a fortnight and they still have it and refuse to give her a straight answer, talking over her telling her his brother is a good tailor who says Hobbs have used the wrong fabric ! She has told them she wants a full refund for the dress as they have ruined it. She is getting nowhere. They just won't cooperate, won't even make eye contact or listen.
    Any helpful ideas as to what course of action she should take?

    A letter before action setting out the details of the incident, and that they had an opportunity to repeat performance.
    Tell them she requires the dress replaced, or the price of a replacement.

    Remedies Sec 54 (7) (a) (claiming damages);
