• NatWest credit card fraud rejected by NatWest

Hello,

I'm trying to advise a friend who had £3.5k fraudulently put on one of his cards (NatWest) in March last year. He informed them (they changed the card number in response, so they can't deny that) and then he half forgot about it and half was in denial, making minimum payments for a while and then not even doing that. Eventually chasing them with my support they've now said they're refusing to accept it as fraud because it was a money transfer website (or something) and they don't have to explain further.

Naturally they continue to bombard with letters chasing for payment. The Financial Ombudsman is mentioned... which I don't have high hopes for.

Any advice gratefully received.

Can you explain more ie was it a balance transfer from the card? How was the transaction made?

Will ask Nemesis and des8 to take a look as well

Does your friend have any idea how the transfer was performed?
Does he know how the fraudster obtained the card details?
Or was he the victim of a scam?

All I know is that it was through skrill.com (some sort of online money transfer) and that he thinks it was someone he used to live with who moved abroad.

With such little detail it is difficult to advise.
However as he suspects a flatmate the bank will say that your friend probably didn't take sufficient care of his card and was
grossly negligent.
BUT it is for the bank to prove it.

Please get more details about this matter, and if possible post up a copy of the bank's letter.
