forgot to insure motorcycle Requisition "No ASN Required" received

My first post. Thanks LeagleBeagles for a great forum.
I've searched extensively for an equivalent post, to no avail.

Very simply, I have an old Harley in my garage. It's taxed. Somehow I forgot to get it insured 5 months ago. Bit pathetic, but I have not been using the bike at all. I took it out two weeks ago and got a DVLA letter titled
"No ASN Required"
Requisition.
bike not insured

I am guilty. Genuinely forgot to insure the bike. I would really appreciate advice on my best course of action.
The court (Crawley, Sussex) is very far from where i live (Stevenage, Herts), so a I would prefer not to attend.

Hi and welcome
Did the DVLA give you the opportunity to make an out of court payment?

Was this caused by failure to renew the insurance? Did insurers not send a reminder?
Old vehicle... historic,,, free tax and classic vehicle insurance?

You could try contacting DVLA and suggest the matter is settled out of court.
Explain reason for oversight and hope.
All they are looking for is their penalty (£100?), but if it goes to court they only get their (inflated) costs back as the fine goes to the treasury. The fine could be upto £1000, but normally hovers around £200 +costs + victim surcharge

Thank you so much des8. Will call dvla monday. Interesting point about who benefits from the two probable outcomes.
I did get a reminder but decided I wouldn't be riding for a few months and the bikes garaged so felt like a good plan.
Again, very grateful for your response. And so fast. What a lovely find. Towards a sharing world.

Good luck, and don't volunteer the info that you might 'ave taken bike on road uninsured!
