  • Boss always correcting my speech

    Hi all
My boss is very well spoken and I an from West London. She never bothered about my speech until recently when we interview anyone, she says "We cannot have that person working here they cannot even speak correctly". She has now started correcting me when I am speaking. I will be half way through a sentence and she will correct a word I have used.

it is very demoralising and I feel really cross but I don't say anything as I don't want an argument with my boss. Her favourite one is correcting the use of "Did" or "Done"

I have no one to complain to as we are a small company she is my only boss.

I want to put a proper name to what she is doing to me before I consider doing anything about it.

    Can anyone help please?

    Hi and welcome.

IMO she is a language bully and pedant.
However, although she is rude, unbearable and narcissistic, I doubt there is much you can actually do other than imagine her in some compromising situation and laugh inwardly when she acts so superiorly

    look for anther job?

Oh I can give you a proper name :censored:for what she is doing but I would get banned from this site! Suffice to say it rhymes with being a looking hitch.:tape: She must be very ‘new posh’ or only a generation from the sewer if she has to keep drawing attention to her accent.

I totally agree with Des -start looking for another job. People who are that ignorant will never be pleasant to work for and you spend far too many hours at work to be unhappy. You are too good to work for her!

Thanks Guy, I am already searching for another job. But I want to be able to explain myself when I give my reasons for leaving, Obviously I would just love to say "because you are a snobby, nasty psychopathic dragon" but I want to get paid my due!

Re: Boss always correcting my speech

During the interviews you can always tell the new employer you have heard good things about them and although happy wish to move on to a more successful company -creep, creep. Be honest but calm and matter of fact with her when you are giving your reasons for leaving. Even if she apologises don’t be tempted to stay because there is something basically wrong with anybody, especially those in positions of authority, who behave like this.
Then when you have proven to them just how indispensable you are i.e. after your trial period, you could always pop back and tell her to Fork auff.:tinysmile_twink_t2:
