Hi All,
There are loads of articles on this matter on this site and others. Here is a brief history:
2012: I opened an account with santander as they were offering £100 to switch. They initially said they would give me an overdraft of £1500 (matching my current bank account). I left and then got a call saying they couldn't do the OD so never switched, and completely forgot I had even opened this bank account.
2014: I signed up for free credit thingy and see A default amount on my account for £650, it transpires that this account had a minimum monthly deposit amount of £600 (I think). As I never used the account (and hadn't deposited the minimum amount) they fined me £3.00 for a few months. This took me into the chargeable OD limit and for 6 months they carged me £100.00.
Now I moved house in between opening the account and all of this, did not update them with my address and didn't know this was going on. After explaining my situation to many different departments at Santander, I got the debt wiped off.
But... My credit file is haunted by a year of missed payments and Defaults. Me and the Mrs found out recenlty that were expecting our 1st child so were trying to get a mortgage to put some roots down. I was thinking of sending a letter to the CEO of Santander, explaining what happened:
- I was never told their was a minimum deposit amount
- Its clear that I didn't go ovrdrawn as I was spending money
- I moved house so didn't receive any of the letters they sent out
- I was not given the OD that I had been told when I setup the account
- The fact this adverse credit history is causing harm to me and my family
And ask for them, as a gesture of goodwill, to remove the default and missed payment.
I was thinking of starting off nice ,and then go down the route of suggesting the account was mis-sold, charges were unfair?
Should I go to the CEO or try "normal" complains dept 1st. I prefer the former, as if I contact the comlaints department; I'll end up sending tons of letters.
If I draft a letter, could someone read it over and give me some suggestions on what I should change?
What are your thoughts on this? Am I wasting my time?
EDIT: Looks like I posted this in the wrong forum, I cant see how I change this, can one of the mods move this into the best forum?
