  • Extending a probation period as an employee?

OK, not unlinked to my previous post, I now have the pending situation whereby I am currently coming to the end of my probation period (6 months). My employer is wanting to breach my fixed term contract by reducing it from 12 months to 9 months and thereby ending it early...thy dispute this.
The breach of contract aside, I wish to know if I as an employee on probation can suggest the employers are also on probation from me? and as such I do not pass them at the 6 month point and require it extending? As it stands I have a weeks notice period while on probation, if I get past my probation date that will increase to a months notice.
It seems highly unfair, that given the shortening of my contract by 25% they would also now insist me to accept that I would be on a months notice for the final 3 months of my employment (months 7,8,9). This would obviously hinder my chances at finding a short term immediate start job to fill the 3 months void (months 10,11,12) enforced upon me by my employers.

Any input would be most welcome.
