Hi
I am looking for some advice on a VT carried out last September on HP agreement. I VT on my Insignia after 30 months with 67000 miles, and GMAC sent their own A4 sheet showing 'Fair wear and tear' limits. There were 2 shallow dents but no exposed primer or bare metal which if there was it would require repair.
A small area of top paint coat flaking on N/S front wing, but again no primer showing, and 4" of edge scuffing on an alloy wheel; they would allow up to 2" damage. They want to charge me £600. I have replied twice that the mileage is high and the examiner at the time said this was the 2 year old check and the damage looked minor to him, but sign this form so I can take the car. I told him I was not agreeing to anything, but he replied with no signature he could not legally take the car, so I signed. 2 letters from their solicitor asking for £600 plus the 30th month payment. I checked the latter and sent a cheque, but nothing else.
This went quiet for 2 months now I have another solicitor trying to get me to pay up, plus pointing out I owed the 30th month payment again. I will tell her tomorrow GMAC cashed my cheque last October. Do I have grounds not to pay or would it be a good idea to refer to the Ombudsman, and would you have the address please. Any advice would be appreciated.
