  • How can I make a claim against Police

    Hi People,
My friend has a food shop and above it is a flat he rented out.
It was raided a little while ago by the Police as the tenant had grown a Cannabis farm there !!!

Problem was the police knew there was a food shop below and they raided above whilst the food shop below was cooking.
The Police literally ransacked the Flat and in so doing they smashed a plastic containers holding 120 litres of fertilizer watered ready to use on the plants they grew.

This massive amount of liquid poured through the floors and into the cooking range below and stopped my friend from staying open as the food was wasted and the equipment was not usable from then that night.
It cost my friend close to £2000 in lost sales and damages.
When we went upstairs the next morning to see the extent of damage we found the broken plastic tank and next to it the Police crowbar they used to destroy this tank which was what caused the damage below in my friend's shop.
    Can he claim ?
They will lie so what should he do ?

    Thanks

I would have thought the easiest procedure would be to make a claim under his Contents and Business Interruption policies. The insurers would then proceed against he police.
If he is uninsured, he will need to contact the relevant forces legal department, with a request for compensation, which will be refused.
He will need to keep battling with them as they hope by giving him the run a round, he will get tired and give up.
The last way is to issue a county court claim.
