  • Injured by a dog

My 2 year old granddaughter and I were knocked over by an uncontrolled dog resulting in me having a broken foot.
No claim company will touch my request for compensation.
    Why?
    What do I do next?
    The police were involved.
    Many thanks.

    Re: Injured by a dog

Sorry to hear of your accident.
Presumably you know to whom the dog belongs.
Before seeking compensation you need (if possible) to ascertain if the owners are in a position to pay compensation if you win.
Do you know where they live? Is it a private house or rented? are they likely to have liability insurance if they don't have their own financial resources?

You then have to sue them.
You can do this yourself, but I would recommend you first visit a local solicitor (try and get an initial free consultation) to discuss the options open to you.
If it is a straight forward case he should be able to do it on a "no win no fee" basis.

      Thank you des8.
That is really helpful. I traced the owners address via DVLAs v888 form and passed the info on to the police. The house is privately owned but I have no idea about any insurance. Could my police liaison find out for me? Would they disclose the information?
I have asked about his pet insurance but have had no response yet.
      I will plug on.
I am very grateful for your response.
