  • Scottish gas how is this possible

Can anyone please explain or maybe offer some advice as to how to handle this situation
    let me first explain,

three years ago I split up with my now ex wife she remained in my house for a further two years
then a year and three months ago after loosing another court battle she moved out

all the water and power was turned off in the house except one light bulb for about three weeks it two was then turned off
I gave the meter readings to the energy suppliers

then every three months despite telling them the property was empty and nothing was on they kept sending estimated bills after sending readings again they kept sending more estimated bills and as I don't live there and the property is empty and will remain as such until my ex pays for the damage she has done to it but that's another story,

but today mail came to my new house from Buchanan Clarke and Wells asking me to contact them giving a reference number having read they are a depth collection agency I don't understand why they are contacting me when the energy company can't update there records if it is that and what can I do as this firm appear to be idiots

Hi, this is a familiar story with just about every energy supplier.

You need to ignore customer (dis) service which has little or no authority to do more than spout a company script.

Make a Formal Complaint to the top e.g. the CEO of the company send it by signed for post and check that it's been delivered.

A formal complaint allows for a full investigation and response within 56 days, however matters move faster this way.

Idiocy seems to be a requirement for employment with energy suppliers, " computer says it's winter so rack up the estimated fictional prices!

As Nem says ... a formal complaint to the CEO is advisable (you will get things sorted faster if he's in the picture )

Personally, I would write to the debt collectors (recorded/signed for post) and advise them that the 'account' is in dispute. After that, you could (probably) ignore further correspondance until the matter is resolved.

If you can go and get the meter readings. Send this to the CEO and then ask him why they have been demanding money despite knowing there was no useage.

My parents have a similar issue with Eon - the Gas was disconnected about 10 years ago and they STILL get bills.

There is another scenario ongoing at present where energy providers are leaving meters in properties not using energy an billing for standard charges for the equipment just because it's there.
Rather like a petrol station billing its account customers for pumps being availabe

You have to stand your ground with Scottish Gasp... Trust me on this.. I made the mistake once of switching my electricity to them... They billed me ok... Problem is it was the next door's meter number... Would they listen? No... I got charges for non payment and threats by the parcel load. Eventually they had to actually go through with their threats and actually try and take me to court for non payment and at that point it sort of went tits up, as well the meter number they were trying to stick me with wasn't registered to my address (as Scottish Power pointed out to them)
I should of known.... They came to disconnect my gas supply 2 years earlier... The bill for that was £540.00 I did point out to the Scottish Gasp engineer that if he could find a gas supply he was more than welcome to disconnect and the company's red letters were choking up my filing cabinet!!!:tongue2:
