  • Statute Barred

    Hi People,
I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency inviting me to contact them. They say that they have been writing to me at an address that moved from about 30 years ago. There are no other details on this letter.

After all this time I cannot recall any loans I had at the time and in the intervening years,I have sorted my debts in one way or another.

I have lived at my present address for 7 years and in that time have not had any notifications of outstanding money from any one. So,if there was something, surely it would be statute barred after 6 years?

My other question is how do these people find these so called debts. My credit record shows nothing and has my present address on it,so why have they written to an address I left so long ago.

    Thanks

Yes, if you have not paid towards or acknowledged a debt for six years (five in Scotland) then it is Statute Barred :tinysmile_twink_t2: Personally, I'd be inclined to file their letter in the bin (and any further ones too) unless it is notice of a court case.

They buy cheap out of time debts and then try to find you using a CRA (usually Call Credit) AND often they chase the wrong person In one appalling incident a couple of years ago they repeatedly chased an elderly woman to the extent she committed suicide It was then found she wasn't the debtor after all, it was 'mistaken' identity ............Scumbags
