I do not imagine that I am the first person to have fallen for this, and maybe even with the same company, but I am now in debt to my landlord over this matter and need help. I am retired, and my only income is state pension and housing benefit.
Three weeks ago my daughter had a debt problem, and I tried to help by applying for a small short term loan...not really expecting any success because of my age and credit record, but I tried because I could think of no other way to help her. I started to complete an online application form but was unable to complete it because some questions referred to employment details, which, being retired, I could not answer. When I left these questions unanswered, clicking onto the "next step" I was simply returned to the same page, and gave up on the application. I had however already entered my bank details but was not worried as I had not completed the form or submitted it. They have drawn aprox 68.00 from my account. This was from a company called Loans-only.com. (Bet that sounds familiar). I have accessed my so-called application, which shows the incompleted questions. At the top of this application is a green bar stating that this is a fee for lifetime loan matching, but does not state how much this fee is. However on the membership details, which were not available until the money was drawn from my bank, the fee of 68.00 is shown. Phone calls were not answered.
Finding on their site that this unwanted membership could be cancelled under the 14 day rule, providing that no loan offers were accepted. I cancelled withing 14 days, in writing, sent by recorded delivery, but have had no acknowledgement of this.
I suppose it would be almost impossible to achieve a refund because of the way they got the bank information, but surely I would have more chance of a refund under the 14 day rule. However I will not be surprised if I lose the money altogether. Can anyone please tell me what to do if I do not get the refund ? I applied within the time period, cancelled in writing, recorded delivery, and have not been offered, and obviously not accepted, any loan from any company. Should I take this further through Trading Standards, and if so, should I go through my local Trading Standards office, or the office covering the area where this company is situated. Thank you.
