  • various debts

    Hi everyone ,
Im new to this site , and am hoping to get the answers to the many debt problems that i have ,
Ive recently been contacted by lowell ( 3 debts dating back to 2008 ) and 1st credit who have been phoning me 2 to 3 times a day for the last four years ( seperate debt 2008 )
Ive followed this site and have sent lowell lowell 3 "prove it letters " which included a request for the contract and the deed of assignment ( they have replied but have failed to come up with the information that i have asked for )so i sent the "account in dispute "letter.
1st credit have been hounding me for years but have now found my new address where i rent a room.
This followed after taking out a phone contract with ee / T mobile.
They have asked for information regarding my whereabouts and whether it is me that resides at that address .
The problem i have is that i rent a room which is on my landlords property ( so all my mail comes through his post box )
If he finds out that im bringing trouble to his home then i might find myself in a much worse situation,
Shall i ignore the letter off 1st credit, or shall i send them a " prove it letter " first and be done with it ,
    Thankyou

The 1st Credit letter is a phishing letter hoping you'll respond. Do you know exactly what these debts are for and when they were defaulted. If 6 years has gone by they must be or be close to being statute barred.

Hi wombats.44981 Thankyou for your reply ( the debts were defaulted in 2008/2009 ) the lowell debts are for small loans and severn trent water ,
i am unsure of the 1st credit debt unless it is a halifax loan that i also took out in 2008 as well ( just to update you , i have had several addressess since then as i have been homeless and have had many jobs since then .
all the loans were unsecured if thats of any help ?
I still havent replied to 1st credit as yet.

I wouldn't - if you reply it will attract more interest from them. :tinysmile_twink_t2: Similarly if the other debts are old then I would ignore those for a while if it is not going to cause problems with your landlord.

Usually, after 6 years from the date of default, if no payment has been made by you, or you have not acknowledged the debt in writing at all the debt becomes Statute Barred which means that while they can still ask you to pay it, you don't have to, and once you notify them it is SB they should stop contacting you.

I'd be inclined to get a copy of your credit report which initially I'd do online through Noddle as it's free. Depending on what that shows it may be worth getting your report from all the CRA's. You don't want to start acknowledging debts if they are close to being SB and you won't have to pay them. :tinysmile_twink_t2:

          Hi wombats,448851,
I replied only to the Lowell letters by the reference number only and not by name ,
Lowell are in reciept of the 12+2 deed of assignment request ( which they failed to come up with ) i have since sent them an "account in dispute letter" which questions there activities and there involement within this matter.
I will certainly take your advice and not contact 1st credit for the time being ,
To be honest , i only answered lowells enquires because they were sending up to eight letters a week plus a home visit to my landlord..
