  • Forced to use the telephone

    Hi,

Does anyone know if an employer can move someone to a different job, albeit in the same grade and in the same building, forcing them to use a telephone all day when they have a telephone phobia which they are receiving treatment for? I have been employed by this company for several years and have an exemplary attendance record. However, the threat of being made to do this is making me ill. Can anyone help please?

Are your employers already aware of your medical condition and do you have medical records to substantiate this to them should it be needed.
Any opinions I give are my own. Any advice I give is without liability. If you are unsure, please seek qualified legal advice.

Hi, yes they are aware of my condition. As for my medical records - I am not on medication or anything like that but have been attending counselling in an attempt to address my phobia; my GP has also referred me for CBT.

In my opinion, your employer would break the Equality Act 2010 by requiring someone to use the electric telephone when that person has a severe. mental aversion to telephones. By the way, the same demons that lurk in the telephone lines can also hide in a computer screen.

Are they trying to reduce the size of their workforce, but wish to avoid redundancies and/or redundancy payments?
