  • Utility Debt

Please can somebody advise. I have just received an NPower bill for just under £4000. Bill has accumulated due to previous history of ill health. Meterplus have come around saying that I will have court action against me with a pay meter installed if I don't contact them. I tried this morning but they are not there. I paid about £1000 in January to avoid action. Apart from paying such a large amount again - which I unable to at the moment - is there anything that would be acceptable to prevent the threatened action? Thank you.

Npower has an appalling record for bullying of customers and misleading the courts. Is your ill-health sufficient to be life-threatening, terminal or significantly affect your everyday living? If so and if Npower know this, they may have difficulty trying to justify their action or, at the very least, may have to pull back and reconsider. If you are classed as disabled, you may be subject to certain protections under the Equality Act 2010.

Over how many years was that debt accrued?
