  • Bailiffs for council tax

    Hi everyone I'm hoping to get some advise about bailiffs, on Wednesday night the bailiffs turned up at my house and levied my car for none payment of council tax which the council had wrongly taken me to court over as I had a direct debit set up and have been making payments, they wrongly stopped the direct debit when I moved house and well we are where we are.

    Ok so my question is I have paid to the council all that I now owe including the court cost but where do I stand on the bailiffs fees they are saying I owe them £109 for 2 visits a levy and £24.50 for removal of goods which they haven't done.

    can they seize my car for their fees?

    i would really appreciate any help and advise on this.

    Did you pay the council before the muppets turned up? Could you also advise which bailiff company is involved, please?

          If I have to pay the fees I will do but have wiped myself out paying the council and if I have to pay them then I need to pay their fees in instalments which is why I'm wondering if they can refuse and take my car for their fees of £109

            Bristols and Hooters, as they are known, have form for inflated and illegal charges. Have you shown them proof that you have paid the outstanding CT arrears and court costs to the council? Also, could you list what they are charging for, please?

                  Could you advise how much the arrears and court costs were, please? Also, have B & S left a Notice of Seizure, listing when the alleged visits took place? This is a legal requirement. The Removal Fee is illegal.

                    The council tax + court costs came to 530.09 he posted a letter through the door after I slammed it shut (my 3yo little boy opened the door) it said they had levied the vehicle and listed all of the fees

                      Re: Bailiffs for council tax

                      Okay, fees should be as follows -

                      1st Visit Fee = £24.50
                      2nd Visit Fee = £18.00
                      Levy Fee = £41.25

                      Total = £83.75

                      It is illegal to levy the Removal Fee on he same date as a levy.

                      Have they quoted the dates of the alleged visits? If they haven't they can only prove the visit when they posted the notice through your door. Did they post anything through your door on a previous occasion?

                            Hide it somewhere, such as in a garage.
