Hello to all

I have joined following 'Sairlp' (my wife) having been a member for some time and receiving some very good support and advice over several issues.

I am a Nurse and have worked in the NHS for many many years.

My particular concerns at present are:

The increase in bullying and the level of fear amongst staff regards speaking out or even supporting colleagues.

Also there appears to have been a sort of the toxic deterioration of a large proportion of Managers in cahoots with HR who just seem hell bent on making life more difficult for clinicians etc

I have recently been advised by my Union that the managers act like they do as they are 'untouchable' and can just get away with anything.

Well there's my little rant.

I would be very pleased to hear from people who have observed similar

Hi Gurraaagh... welcome to Legal Beagles. I remember your wife from a long time ago when we were first members and hope to catch up with her soon.

I have just had a 2.5 week spell in hospital as a patient did not pick up any bad vibes but that is not to say that somethings go on behind the scenes. I can only say I had the bestest nursing that I could have had and because of this I am making an excellent recovery.

After a life time of being a nurse as an Sen and the Srn I did not renew my registration this year.
I got more and more depressed about all the bad press and the need to meet budgets etc, the "client" seeming to come down the list

Thank you for your welcome

Please don't get me wrong, there is a plethora of brilliant clinicians, admin & ancillary staff that do an excellent job. I have some truly brilliant colleagues.

Part of our job is to keep any negative issues, problems, politics and short falls etc away from the patients& relatives
At times even new staff will take several weeks to realise there are problems within the service as we try to get on with the job despite the management & systems.
We can get into trouble if we tell people about problems and several of my colleagues have been told directly not to express their concerns.

The vast majority of staff are so keen to do a good job, go the extra mile, they miss their breaks, work over their paid time, in order to keep up their own high professional standards despite the systems and management etc.

I sometimes like to think about clinicians as a bit like 'ducks' on a fast moving river. They look calm gliding across the water but underneath they are paddling like crazy just to keep up.

I am so pleased you were well cared for in hospital and are making a good recovery. Thankfully there's loads of excellent clinicians with vast experience, knowledge & skills etc. And there are still some well managed services, staffed well and good managers and HR around that care, who do a good & honorable job.

I can really understand.
I agree totally about the clients/patients sliding down the list of importance.
It seems more important that work appears to be done than actually done.

Tick that box!

There are so many nurses leaving or considering leaving the profession out of disappear, frustration and a sense of powerlessness.

Next time you see a clinician ask about their time spent on their particular health services record & assessment keeping computer system
