  • Tv Documentary Series Offering Help To People Who Hoard

    I am currently working on a TV programme which aims to help people who either hoard or are over keen collectors. We are looking for people for whom hoarding has taken over their lives and homes and they really could do with some help to sort things out.


    This documentary series takes a therapeutic approach to hoarding, whilst offering a unique and tailored treatment programme, combined with a specialist de-cluttering service. It’s very positive and will show how hoarding affects lives, whilst exploring this often misunderstood condition and helping to de-clutter at the same time.

    Now that house cleaning and hoarding have both been featured on the Idiots' Lantern, how about a series on people who take to spamming?

      whilst this post does not relate directly to helping hoarders it is important that any one knows what is actually going on in the REAL WORLD.

      the housing act 1988
      Schedule 2: Grounds for possession of dwelling-house let on assured tenancies

      has a section marked grounds for eviction , ground 13 states

      Ground 13
      The condition of the dwelling-house or any of the common parts has deteriorated owing to acts of waste by, or the neglect or default of, the tenant or any other person residing in the dwelling-house and, in the case of an act of waste by, or the neglect or default of, a person lodging with the tenant or a sub-tenant of his, the tenant has not taken such steps as he ought reasonably to have taken for the removal of the lodger or sub-tenant.

      For the purposes of this ground, "common parts" means any part of a building comprising the dwelling-house and any other premises which the tenant is entitled under the terms of the tenancy to use in common with the occupiers of other dwelling-houses in which the landlord has an estate or interest.

      Councils ALMO's etc do not acknowlege the amount of hoarders in the uk - NOR THE REASONS - hence why you are doing this program .

      A Place In The Sun: Home Or Away? - Channel4 where the public actually view properties to buy either in the uk or abroard herself actually featured in a program on tv recently about her mothers compulsive hoarding.



      Councils/Almos have been known and still do issue a ntq (notice to quit) which is valid for one year, where the person in their opinion is a hoarder. They make threats that they will get caretakers in to tidy the property up (and in fact charge the tenant) .

      The human rights act has states

      The Nature of the Article 8 Rights

      Article 8 offers general protection for a person’s private and family life, home and correspondence from arbitrary interference by the State. This right affects a large number of areas of life ranging from surveillance to sexual identity - it is framed extremely broadly. Respect for private life includes a right to develop one’s own personality, as well as to create relationships with others. For example, Article 8 has been critical in providing basic protection for the rights of homosexual and transsexual people. It has also been used to extend protection to a person’s office space as well as his or her domestic home. More recently, in the English and Welsh courts, it has been recognised that a right of privacy may be enjoyed by a company as well as an individual.

      when the council/almo believe the tenant is a hoarder they typically take photos of the tenants belongings.

      It was recently pointed out to a Chief executive of "one of the above" that photos taken in a tenants home are classed as data under the data protection Act 1998 and that they had no right to do this

      Basically councils/almos need to be educated on this matter and that this is NOT a ground for eviction.
