  • CICA

    Hi all,

    I’m just after a bit of advice regarding an attack in Leicester 10th December 2009.

    Myself and a friend was walking home after a night out when we saw a argument outside a chip shop, as I was on crutches at the time we decided to cross the road to avoid any confrontation as we crossed the road I heard a loud clap and 2 men ran past us the group of people then turned to us and chased us, the men caught us and proceeded assault us as a result of the beating I received severe injuries to my face and skull the men beat me with the crutches kicked me and placed my face on the curb of the road and stamped on the back of my head three times I suffered a complete break to jaw above the teeth fractures to the left and right side of my face a fractured eye socket and a fracture above the right eye.

    As a result of these injuries I have metal plates on various parts of my face and a titanium mesh underneath my right eye my jaw was wired shut for about 6 weeks.

    I was talking to a friend who said he knew somebody, a “solicitor” was the phrase he used but I’m sure he’s not shown credentials, who could help me submit a claim to the CICA and get some kind of compensation, however little, would help me.

    He said the solicitor would “take care of everything” for 25% of any compensation.

    I’ve contacted him and he has sent me some forms but after speaking to my father he said a solicitor isn’t always necessary for simple cases. Looking at the CICA website it appears I simply apply online through myself.

    I guess what I’m wondering is;

    a) Do I need a solicitor for something like this? Is he just posting a few forms for me and taking off 25%

    b) Has anybody done something like this before either with or without a solicitor and what was the outcome?

    Thank You in advance x

    Re: CICA

    Dear Donooking,

    I am sorry to read about your experience and even more sorry that I cannot advise you accordingly but I know what it is like to sit and wait for a response, so rather than you think that no one reads your posts, I thought I would let you know that they do and will respond accordingly.

    I am sure that someone will be along soon to help. Take Care

      Re: CICA

      Hi and welcome, firstly what a horrible thing to happen and I do hope you are getting over your injuries, although I suspect the mental aspect of what happened will stay with you a long time.
      I have never been through anything like this myself re the CICA, but having a quick glance at the site I see no reason why you can not do this yourself they seem to be able to help you through all the steps that need taking. The police should also have advised you about this and given you at the very least some basic info on it.
      If you are in any doubt ring the CICA and let them help you, but as far as I can see a solicitor is not needed from what you have said.
